Network Snapshots is a new feature in inSSIDer Plus.
Network Snapshots is a new feature in inSSIDer Plus. In order to enable Network Snapshots, log into my.metageek.com and click Labs in the left sidebar.
Then you will see a list of Labs that you can enable. Network Snapshots is the first and so far the only Lab available. Click Enable to activate the Network Snapshots feature in inSSIDer Plus.
After you have enabled the Network Snapshots experiment, you will need to sign out of inSSIDer Plus on your computer and sign back in. After you have signing back in and letting the app collect some data (5-10 seconds) it will query the MetaGeek cloud to determine if the Wi-Fi networks it sees are a previously scanned site or a new site. After this is completed you will see a “Snapshot” button to the left of the Filters.
Clicking the Snapshot button for the first time will prompt you to select your primary Wi-Fi network as shown below (hint: if you are connected to Wi-Fi, the connected network will automatically be selected).
Select your primary network, and choose a name for your site and for the room you are in. Note: Network Snapshots experiment is currently limited to 2 sites with 10 rooms each.
Walk around your site and take snapshots at critical Wi-Fi locations. After you have created a Room, it will be remembered in the list.
After you have finished taking snapshots of the critical Wi-Fi locations close inSSIDer Plus and all the snapshots will automatically be sent to the MetaGeek Cloud.
Now back on my.metageek.com, if you click on Snapshots in the left sidebar you will see a list of your sites. Clicking on a site will take you to a list of rooms and snapshots that you can browse.
Coming soon you will also be able to see deeper analysis and graphs of each site and each room over time. Are you excited for Network Snapshots? Do you have questions? Share your thoughts!
